DLEJ - Lamp

If someone asks, I say you're awake, I don't know when,
And I'd rather not say.
Some nights I tell myself I'm fine,
Then I hear a car and check the window twice.
Leave the lamp on, keep it low, I'm not waiting,
That's not so.
I just keep the kitchen bright in case you knock some night.
Maybe you're a long way off,
Maybe you forgot the wrong back home.
I don't need an answer tonight,
I just need the switch to stay on.
Lamp on, door on, the latch don't bite, not nobody came.
